1851 - Hartman is pennilessSamuel Hartman is 21, broke and has only six months of schooling. He decides to sell German-American bibles in order to earn money to enter college. He is so successful, he hires an assistant. He attends Farmer’s College in Cincinnati until his money runs out - then returns to Medway to study medicine in the office of a local physician. When sufficiently qualified, he attends Western Reserve Medical College in Cleveland. |
