1857 - Hartman gains his fortune as a doctor

Hartman moves to Tippecanoe City where he takes over the medical offices of his brother and graduates with honors from Jefferson Medical College. Hartman gains prominence as an eye and ear specialist and surgeon.

Hartman begins developing and dispensing a medicinal tonic to cure colds and other ailments that would later be known as Pe-Ru-Na. He acquires a sizable fortune as a country doctor and at 38 considered retiring.
