1880 - Hartman regains fortuneIt’s during this time Hartman becomes a successful traveling physician. He advertises his approach and availability in the nation’s larger cities by newspaper and is said never to have missed an appointment. His wife and children remain in Lancaster PA and he sees them only on summer vacation. Hartman regains his fortune and begins manufacturing PE-RU-NA. The ingredients (kept secret until after his death) include up to 30% spirits - which may attribute to its success especially since the Temperance Movement and the Anti-Saloon League are picking up steam. |
