1890 - the Surgical HotelDr. Hartman moves to Columbus and opens Hartman´s Surgical Hotel later to become Hartman Sanitarium. The promotional pamphlet lists various departments as hydro-therapeutic ("more than 100 different baths"), electro-therapeutic, manual & mechanical massage, gymnasium, X-Ray, irrigation, chemical & microscopical labs, synthetic chemistry, eye, ear, note, throat, orthopedic brace & treatments for drug habits. Hartman builds the first mansion to exceed $100,000 in Columbus - despite living in the "marble palace", Hartmans keeps a suite at the Hartman Hotel and stays often. The mansion is located on Town Street and would later be demolished. |
